Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he barely escaped a potentially fatal incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event happened on the third circuit when track officials were seen on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a active circuit safety personnel can be authorized to just sprint across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some form of reasoning, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was informed that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the regulatory authority

"On lap three, safety personnel were informed and put on alert to enter the track and remove the wreckage once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send personnel were withdrawn and a caution signal was raised in that zone"

"We are still investigating what occurred subsequent to that time"
